Boston Equipment Rental Highlight: Garden Tiller

Tool rental in MAAs we continue our series of tool highlights, we think it’s important to share a variety of tools that focus on a variety of projects. Since our last post surrounded the mini excavator – which is arguably used for some larger projects – we thought it would be a good idea to tone it down a little. This month, our Boston equipment rental highlight will focus on garden tillers.

How Do They Work?

As the name would suggest, garden tillers are ideal for gardening. They use a motor to continuously turn a series of rotating blades to turn the soil. They can be used on their own, and can also be attached to a tractor or other vehicle. “Tilling” soil is a term that refers to the preparation of land for growing crops. Soil with good “tilth” has a variety of nutrients and a better structure for growth than traditional soil. Soil tillers are typically either gas or electrically powered.

Proceed With Caution

Mechanically turning the top 6-8 inches of dirt with a tiller is much more efficient than turning the soil by hand, so renting a garden tiller through a Boston equipment rental service, like us, can save you time no matter how big or small your garden is. When using a garden tiller, it’s important to take necessary safety precautions. Examine the land you are planning to till, and remove any weeds or other potential obstacles, like rocks and large clumps of soil. If you choose to leave the weeds, and simply “till” them, you run the risk of causing them to grow in even larger quantities. If you are using it in an existing garden, try to stay at least two feet from existing plants to avoid damaging them.

No matter the project, the professionals here at Rental Depot want to be sure you have the best tool for the job. We offer both five and eight horsepower garden tillers, providing you with the option that best suits your project. Our Boston equipment rental service hopes to empower DIY homeowners by providing them with the tools, and the know-how, to complete a variety of projects.
